First Practice--BackBlast

• Both Team Butler and Team Martella had great first practices
• All the girls were raring to go and looked like they had been practicing a lot over the winter (although they each denied it vehemently)
• We will have our second practice this Friday (3/16/12) at Dilworth Field:
• 5:00 p.m., for Team Butler
• 6:00 p.m., for Team Martella
• We believe our first games will be this Saturday, but we do not have the schedule in hand yet--we will get it out as soon as we have it

PRACTICE BEGINS!!

Both Team Butler and Team Martella are having their first practice on 3/9/12 at Dilworth Elementary.

• Butler at 5:00 p.m.
• Martella at 6:00 p.m.

Pick-up Games

     I broke out the soccer goal and last years balls yesterday and got the girls playing some pick-up in the front yard. Before we knew it, we had some neighborhood girls jump in too. The girls were yelling and fighting it out to score and I could see how much better they already were from where we left off last season. It reminded me of something I see missing here from my childhood, and that is the no-adult pick-up games. Most of the scrimmaging I did as a boy was in the neighborhood without any adult supervision. I probably progressed the most when I had to go up against older boys who, without any adults around, were not afraid to exert their age-based superiority. I know we live in the Play-Date Culture now, but we parents need to push our kids out into the yard without us so that they can learn to play the game without us leaning over them.

Spring 12--Time To Jump In

     It's that time folks. Coach Butler is getting the old crew together for another shot at soccer dominance. We want every single girl from the Silver Bullets to come back again for another run at the (unofficial) title of Best Darned Soccer Team in CNC.  Here is the link for Charlotte Junior Soccer. We'll let you know about scheduling as soon as we know about scheduling.
